The Republic of Korea and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan established diplomatic relations in December 1973. Since then both countries have enjoyed friendly and cooperative relations and steady increase in economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

Afghanistan and Korea have many similarities, especially in that both countries with their strategically important location experienced aggressions of neighboring super powers and serious civil wars which resulted in great loss of life and devastation of economy. Korean people suffered a lot from the Korean War(1950-1953) but could successfully overcome ruins of the war and achieve exemplary democratization and economic development with advice and assistance of the international community, and these experiences could be shared with the Afghan people.

The Government of the Republic of Korea, in collaboration with international community which has provided Afghan people with diverse assistance to help them overcome current difficulties, has participated in these efforts through various in-kind donations, training programs and cooperative projects. These include building and operating the Afghan Korean Vocational Training Center(AKVTC) in Kabul and the Korean Medical and Vocational Training Team(KMVTT)  in Bagram. Korean construction companies are also making their contributions by implementing construction projects in spite of difficult security situation in Afghanistan. The Government of the Republic of Korea will always be standing ready to render continued support and assistance for the rebuilding of Afghanistan.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kabul has committed itself in making its utmost efforts for strengthening bilateral relations between Korea and Afghanistan and providing assistance for Afghan people and government in this regard. I hope this website will be a useful means for all of you who want to know more about Korea and its people as well as to better understand bilateral relations between our two countries.
